I responded to an inmate request to see a minister at the jail. The deputy brought him into the program room and introduced myself and opened in prayer. I asked him how he was doing and he remained silent. I asked how his relationship with God was and he just stared at me. I asked how his prayer life was and still no response. I said I can imagine how hard it is being alone here and we don’t have to talk we can just sit together, I’m here for you. After about 15 minutes with a few short one sentence prayers I read a chapter in Psalms. Afterwards I closed in prayer thanking God for the time we shared and said to him that I enjoyed being with him and told him I would come see him again. I acknowledged the Deputy that we were done and the inmate was taken silently back to his cell. I believe God did work in this young man’s life today.
